We are such staff as dreams are made of

Is there any real definition for the word “dream”? I’m not searching for some complicated words or phrases that you can find in any dictionary, I mean is there a definition for this word that can offer you its true meaning, its true power? Can you explain it or is it just like love, trust, happiness… you just have to believe in it and maybe, one day, it will reveal itself to you, it will show you its secrets and miracles.

Why is it so important for people to have dreams, wishes? Why do people sometimes risk their secure future for some childish dream? Why is it that when you lose your ability to dream you lose your soul? So many questions without an answer…but the true question is why can’t we find the answers? Are we too greedy for scientific explanation for everything that occurs in our daily life? Perhaps it is time for us to accept that little things make us truly happy, we have to try not to question even the good things that happen to us.

It is said that the Universe is like a big magnet that attracts all the positive and negative feelings a person has. Imagine Aladdin’s lamp and the big genie that can grand you three wishes. Now you are Aladdin and the Universe is the genie; the difference is that it isn’t only three wishes and the time limit is different. You haven’t been given a number, you can ask the Universe countless times and one day you will receive what you want. Your wish can become reality within an hour, a day, a week, a year; you don’t know when, but it only depends on you. If you can visualize your dream, your wish, if you don’t doubt it just believe in it, then it won’t remain just an imaginary thing, an imaginary job, the ideal family or house, it will become reality in no time.

<You see things; and you say, 'Why?' But I dream things that never were; and I say, 'Why not?'> (George Bernard Shaw – Nobel Prize for Literature) Why don’t you create the world you want, why shouldn’t you if you can? Don’t say that some of your dreams are foolish, childish or other thousand adjectives that can destroy their true value. If your heart desires them, then they are something important for you, they are important for your soul.

A wish and a dream are one and the same, two words but one meaning. You are never too old or too young to set another goal or to dream another dream. Why is it so hard to believe that dreams offer us freedom? They reveal our true nature, our true selves... Is it this one of the reasons why we hide our dreams and try to forget them? We aren’t ready to put our mask aside and let the people around us know who we truly are. Aren’t we a bit selfish at this point? Aren’t we lying to ourselves? Besides lying, we are also deceiving not only the others but also ourselves.

We wake up, put on our daily make-up, hide our faces and bodies with expensive clothes, accessories and other things, stick a smile on our faces and go to school, college, work. The next day we do the same and the following one the same, and our entire life goes on like this. Is it this what we really want? Becoming puppets, not to saying what we actually think because we are scared? Do we want to lock our dreams in a cage, to throw them into a trunk and hope that one day they will not bother us any longer? Do we really want to forget them?…

No one says it is easy to embrace your dreams, no one says it is easy for those who dream. No one can guarantee you that it will be easy to reach your dreams because we know that it is hard, that’s why we don’t have the courage to follow them. Our fear is so big that it simply blocks our faith to go on that path. You have to believe in yourself but most of us don’t, we are scared of what we might find about ourselves if we venture on an unexplored path. It’s much easier to begin your life and continue it on a well known road, one explored not only by you but by hundreds of other people… it’s safe and secure (the collective archetypes of Jung)

Can you see our mistake? Today we invent excuses for not being the persons we want to be: “That job doesn’t offer me the opportunities I could get in this one”, “I won’t like what I’ll be doing but I have to accept it”, “It’s much safer and I have to think of my future!”, “ I can’t tell my parents that I don’t want to go to that college, I don’t want to upset them” and the examples can go on forever. Do you recognize yourself? If you accept your dreams then you accept your true self.

Don’t go on a path only because there are others that choose it. Make your own way! Leave a mark behind you! Leave, wherever you go, a memory and a smile so that people can remember you. Be who you truly want to be, teach other people to follow their dreams, be wiser and in this way you will find what you are looking for in this life.

Don’t compare yourself to others. Don’t compare your dreams to others’ dreams! If you try to do it, then you might say your dreams aren’t that important… there will always be dreams greater or humbler than your own ones, but there will never be a dream exactly like your own, for you are unique!

Every dream has a special meaning, what we are today is based on our childhood dreams and expectations. We are what we dream, what we want to dream. We can be who we want, have what we want but who we are tomorrow depends on what we dream today. Risk not dreaming, risk turning into the person you don’t want to. Dream a life you want to have and you will have it! Be who you want to be! Be the person who dreams today!

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within yourself the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”  (Harriet Tubman)
